Gender Mainstreaming Units

Gender Mainstreaming Units (GMU) established in eight line departments i.e. Finance, P&D, Health, Education, S&GAD, LG&CD, Home and Law comprising of:-

Notified Focal Person in each department, to be called Task Leader – Gender Mainstreaming (TL-GM). These could be of varying seniority depending upon the nature of the department.
Gender Specialist (equivalent to BS 18), a professional hired on contract positions.
Additional Focal Persons in each attached department / autonomous body / special institution.
Officers immediately below the TL-GM in official hierarchy (i.e. if Additional Secretary is TL-GM, then puty Secretary and Section Officer reporting to him on gender mainstreaming function would also form part of GMU).
 

Role of TL-GM
TL-GM would be responsible for:

--Mainstreaming of gender agenda in the sectoral programs, policies, projects, and budgets by ensuring that these are based on context-specific gender analysis and relevant sex-Disaggregated data.
--Scanning all the developmental projects/ schemes, plans, proposals and budgets for ensuring adequate women friendly infrastructure provision at the time of designing structures/ building plans.
--Advising administrative Secretary about gender mainstreaming activities
--Identification, and training of Additional Focal Persons in attached departments / autonomous bodies / special institutions
--Networking with other TL-GMs and WDD to develop solutions for the department’s problems
--Building a culture of gender sensitivity in the department.
--Formulation of department specific capacity development plan for the staff
--Developing a monitoring framework with the use of suitable indicators to track departmental   progress in gender mainstreaming.

Gender Specialists will be responsible for:
Providing technical support to the TL-GM, additional focal persons and other staff of the department for gender mainstreaming
Generating periodic status reports on the gender mainstreaming initiatives
